Considerable enthusiasm was aroused at '* the patriotic demonstration in the Baptist Tabernacle last night at the receipt of two congratulatory cablegrams, one from Mr. Lloyd George and the other from Dr. Clifford, head of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Lloyd George's message was as follows— " Please convey greetings and best wishes for success of meeting to Baptist Union. Britain is well aware of the sacrifices New Zealand has made to help the Mother Country in her hour of need, nor will she be forgetful of the bravery and devotion of your sons. The tale of the heroism of the Australian and New Zealand troops has sent a thrill of pride and | confidence through every heart in this Empire. This war has forged a new link between Britain and her colonies, and onr hearts beat in union in this fight for freedom." Dr. Clifford cabled : —" England rejoices in your splendid devotion to the great cause of human well-being, and thanks you for the fine contribution you have made to the forces. She congratulates you on the self-sacrifice and heroism of your soldiers, and is assured of your abiding support of the Empire in this | strife for the sake of humanity and fo» the Kingdom of God."
