LIQUOR IN MAORI PA.
TWO MEN FINED £10 EACH. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN , CORRESPONDENT.] Wanganci, Monday. A bottle of rum and a bottle of whisky were smuggled into the house of a native at Kauangaroa Pa one Sunday afternoon last month. Several people were present and partook of. the forbidden refreshment, the proceedings ending in a free fight. As a sequel, Arthur Duke appeared at the Magistrate's Court this morning on a charge of taking liquor into the pa. He pleaded not guilty. After hearing the evidence, Mr. Haselden. S.M., imposed a fine of £10.
W. Hunter, who did not appear, was similarly charged*, and was also fined £10. The magistrate ordered the two defendants to each pay half the costs.
