The Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was advanced another stage at Randwick to-day. The weather was fine, and there was again a large attendance. Favourable comment was made in regard to the number of New Zealand horses engaged, which was reminiscent of 1905. Athenic was sent out favourite tor the Shorts, but ran disappointingly. William the Silent monopolised the belting for the Metropolitan, Reputation and St. Carwyne sharing second favouritism. William the Silent ran a good race, and looked the winner entering the straight. The Englishbred horse, however, failed to quite stay it out. and St. Carwyne overhauling the favourite at the distance, scored in a magnificent finish. The New Zealand horees Colonel Soult and Football were never sighted near the front. t The following are the details of the racing:— THE SHORTS, a handicap sweepstakes of lOsovs each, with 600sovs added. It is considered that the defeat of the fnvourite was due to the fact that he had to make the pace himself. Tne sporting writers consider that Reputation is the boat New Zealand horse seen here since 1905. when New Zealanders pretty well swept the board of all the leading events. VICTORIA RACING CLUB.
