J. E. McCarthy. CAfiE OP THE WOUNDED. NEW AMBULANCE UNIT. CAMP AT AWAPUNI. A new field ambulance unit, to be known as No. 2 New Zealand Field Ambulance, is being organised, and the command has been assigned to Major J. Hardie Neil, of Auckland. The,, training of the contingent, which will number about 300 men, will be carried out at Awapuni, near Palmerston North, and Major Neil will leave Auckland, to-night to take charge of the camp. Before proceeding to the front, the men will go through a thorough course of instruction.

The operations on the Galfipoli Peninsula are of such a nature that many surgical operations have to he carried out in the hospitals at the rear of the firing line, and in order that a large number of cases may be dealt with in as expeditious a manner as possible it is desired that the new unit shall be equipped with a complete surgical outfit. Modern sterilisers especially are needed, and gifts of these will be welcomed. Major Neil was trained at the Armv Medical School, Netlev, England. He saw service in the South African war. as medical officer to the fourth New Zealand contingent, and he was also principal medical officer to the contingent which went Home to attend the coronation of King Edward VII.
