EFFECTS OF THE VICTORIES AT TARNOPOL.

NO FEARS FOR SOUTH-WEST PROVINCES. ENEMY'S GALICIAN OPERATIONS POSTPONED. Times and Sydney Sun Services! (Received September 13. 5.25 p.m.) London-, September 12The correspondent of the London Times at Petrograd says the Russian victories immensely modify the. fears in regard to Kieff and the south-west provinces generally. The prospect of further enemy advances in this theatre is contemplated without the slightest apprehension. The likelihood of the enemy reaching Rovno is admitted, but further progress will be increasingly difficult, while the Russian offensive ability in Galicia affords a reliable pledge that an attempt to outflank them from the direction of Rovno will be countered in good time. Meanwhile, the enemy is mainly concerned in keeping the Russians occupied in the Rovno and Dubno region, in order to prevent them following up their Galician success, which has already forced the enemy to retire from the direct routes to the Dnieper, and postpone operations in that direction. The effective repulse of the German naval attack in the Baltic confirms the impression that the German naval organisation is far inferior to their land forces, and strengthens confidence in the Russian Navy to defeat attempts at landing. Rovno is on a railway running parallel to the Galician frontier. It is north of Tarnopol, but on the Russian side of the frontier. Dubno is west and south of Rovno, and is three miles from the VilnaLemberg railway.
