TURKS TIRED OF FIGHT.

PREFER CAPTIVITY.

That the Turks were growing tired of hostilities when the New Zealand soldiers who returned by the Tahiti left the front many of the men agree. The impression seemed to be fairly general that on that account the length of the Gallipoli campaign would be limited. A story was related of an Australian soldier who was in charge of a party of Turkish prisoners. One of the latter seemed to him to be "slacking." The Australian approached the Turk. " Now then," he said, " put your back into it. If you don't do your share of the toil I'll send you back to your own lines." At this threat the Turk is said to have raised imploring hands, crying: " Oh, no, 4 mister; no send me ,back there. I work hard. Please no send me back." With which he redoubled his labours.
