OTAMATEA. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT-] Dargavuxe, Monday. A meeting of the Otamatea County Council was held at Paparo.i on Monday. There were present Messrs. Linneil. D. MoCarroll, Heslop, J. Finlayson, Trewin. and N. Finlayson. In the absence of the chairman, Mr. J. G. Coates, M.P... Mr. Linneil presided. Th«? Minister for Public Works wrote consenting to the railway station adjacent - to Panares bearing the name of that- town. The Telegraph Department notified that authority had been given for telegraphic and telephonic connection with Ruawai, and the Paparoa Telephone Association -also notified its decision to link up its line*; with those of the Kaipara Telephone 'Club, via Rehia. Consideration of the matter was deferred till nest meeting. It was decided, to close the old road adjoining Tokatoka township, and to maintain the highway formed by the Lands Department. The sum of £200 was voted for work at the junction of Burch's and Lindquist Roads, and the engineer was instructed to form a bridge leading to the property of Mr. Burgess, at Awaroa. The council decided to accept all responsibility for any " damage caused to the Naumai tram-line by its drainage scheme, and the matter of improving Mareretu Road during the summer was left in the hands of Mr. Heslop. It- was resolved to call lor tenders for the construction of the ferry slip at Raupo when the plans have been returned from * the Public Works Department, to call for fresh tenders for Tokatoka No. 1 additional
"loan contract, and to consider at next ; meeting the advisability of purchasing a -read roller. The assistant clerk was appointed -for a further term. Messrs. Goate*. Hunt, Smith, and Finlaysorn were dele- ( sated to inspect the contracting plant of R. M. MeGaffin, with a view to its purchase. The county seal was affixed to the debentures for the raising of a loan of £750 for Ruawai Ridinsr. It- was decided to request the '.' Public ' Works Department to exercise its right ami lay off a road between Topuni and Port Albert, under the Act, which provides that 5 per cent, of native lands scld to Europeans shall be retained for roads. The engineer was instructed to define the line of Forsyth's Road. The resignation of the wharfinger at Papa ma teas accepted, and matters in connection with the charge of wharves atWhakapirau and Pahi were defined.
