The New Zealand hockey championship tourney was continued on Saturday, when the seventh round was played, all games being keenly contested. _ Wairarapa and Wellington played a particularly strenuous match, tho city girls failing after deapera'* endeavours to avert defeat. Poverty Bay has one more match to play—against Wellington—but even if they should lose this, the Poverty Bay team has secured the championship. If Wellington beats Poverty Bay to-morrow they will tie with Wairarapa for second honours. Yesterday's results were:—Wdirarapa beat Wellington, 1 goal to 0; Poverty Bay beat Wanganui. 5 goals to 1; Manawatu beat Hawke's Bay, 1 goal to O. Wairarapa and Wellington made things merry from tho bully-off and appeared fairly evenly matched though Wellington might have made more of one or two chances that offered. The first spell produced no score. In the second half both sides essayed furious attacks only to be driven back. One counter attack by Wairarapa after a Wellington assault found a weak spot in the city girls' defence and Miss Snowies shot a goal for Wairarapa. From this out the spectators were given something to watch in the way of fine strongly sustained attack and defensive work in rapid alternations at either end of the field, but no further score resulted.

Poverty Bay had an easy win over Wanganui. Although the latter made a very good effort in the first spell they could not keep up the strain imposed in meeting the moreseasoned Northerners. Misses F. Hill (3), Malcolm and C. Baty scored for Poverty Bay, while Wnnganui's goal was netted by Miss. D. Perritt. Ten minutes after the opening of a really Jvrieht fame Mannwatu scored against Hawke's Bay.
