BASKETBALL.

NOTES AND COMMENTS

The basketball competitions are nearine finality nm*. the senior crade be ins concluded and the intermediate and junior grades being in the final stages. The Kiwi team won the senior shield with an unbeaten- record of eight games played and eight won. The team is a good one, and it is unfortunate that its old rival, St. David's, was unable to enter the lists this year. The writer thinks that Kiwi would still have won the competition, but there would have been some strenuous tussles. In the intermediate srrade three teams are level—Kia. Ora, Normal A. and Victoria Maori Girls. It has been decided by the Executive Committee that, as the Victoria Maori Girls have scored 131 points during the season as against. Normal A's 82 points and Kia Ora's 52 points, they shall have a bye on Saturday, while Normal A and Kia Ora play for the honour of meeting the Maori Girls on the following Saturday. In the junior grade Section A has been won by the Victoria Maori Girls and Section B by Newmarket Old Girls. These teams will play off on Saturday next for the championship of the grade. The positions of the various teams are shown in the annexed tables: —
