The steamer Hororata (9400 tons) has brought 136 wounded NewSouth Wales soldiers and 30 Queensland soldiers. The former include Private Robson. the first Australian to receive the Distinguished Conduct Medal. In the face of Turkish fire he brought in a box of ammunition and water bottles. Thirtyfour men fell in the fire-swept zone between the trenches. Subsequently he shot 13 Turks in an adjacent trench single-handed. The wounded men received a stirring public welcome.
AUSTRALIAN MUNITIONS. STATE ARSENAL MOOTED. (Received August 30, 9.50 p.m.) Melbourne, August. 30. Senator Pearcc, Commonwealth Minister for Defence, has announced that he is now in a position to call for tenders for the manufacture of shell bodies. He is considering the establishment of a Government arsenal to manufacture ammunition for 13-pound guns. An arrangement, is to be made to retain in Australia skilled workmen to make munitions. Sydney. August :s<i. The manager of the Walsh Island Government workshops, where an order has been placed tor machineguns, slates that, they can turn out. machine-guns equal to the best made in England.

DEATHS FROM MENINGITIS. 23 CASES IN ONE WEEK -Mil.HO I IiNK. August .TO. Seventy-four eases of meningitis have been reported at the camp during the week, and out of thac number 23 have died.
