MEN IN GOOD HANDS.

During the last week or two there have been several arrivals of wounded

in England, the chief portion being J men who have spent some time in hos- | pital at Malta, writes our London correspondent, under date July f). A detachment, chiefly of Au'klan Jers, came to England by the transport Rewa, under Colonel Plugge. and went into the military hospital at Devonport ; and another detachment, from Malta., went to the Red Cross Hospital at Netley. Colonel Plugge, who came Home with several bullet woundsone in the arm, ; two in the hips, and a bullet hole through | his cap— quite himself again, and is I moving freely about London. Colonel E. j W. C. Chaytor, C.8., is in the Royal i Free Hospital with a smashed arm, from I which he expects no further trouble, ; though he is unable to use it at all. : Major McCarroli, of Auckland, has an I I injured shoulder bone, which is quite on j the mend, and he is able to walk about ! with comfort. Major H. K. Hart is out i of the doctor's hands and is now in the ■ convalescent home at Brighton, wh-ere : Captain Bartlett is also. Captain G. 8. Smith, of Otago. is able to walk, but . is suffering a good deal with his arm, upon the hone of which an operation was performed last week. Captain A. B. G. Price, of Auckland, has lost some fingers of his right hand, : but is quite well, and is about to report at the depot at Weymouth, prior to leav- ; ing for Egypt. Major C. B. brereton •is well and about. Lieutenant-Colonel A. i E. Loach, of Canterbury, whose leg was ! badly injured by the destruction of the : tendons. has gone on 12 months' furlough. | He will prohably require a further opera- ! tion to enable him to walk. j Quite a number of the wounded from j the various hospitals have cone to con- ! valeseent homes or been discharged as 1 fit for duty, and are enjoying a fortnight's j furlough in London or visiting friends in I the British Isles. Various committees ] are doing much for them in the way of entertainment, and most of their time in j England is well filled in. They speak j unanimously well of the treatment they ; have received in hospital, both from the i staffs and from English people, who have 1 visited them and given them smokes and j comforts.

Details of Injuries. Amongst the detachment who have arrived at Netley are several cases of rheumatism contracted in the trenches of Gallipoli. where the troops lav for some days under very heavy rainfall. Private A. Allen, of Canterbury, and Driver Robartshaw, of Whangarei, are both rheumatic cases, though the latter is also wounded. Sergeant Norrie. of Wellington, of the New Zealand Medical Corps, has quite recovered from a bullet wound in the hand, due to the accidental explosion of a revolver which he was unloading for a patient. Private W. Conolly, son of Mr. Justice Conollv, a member of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, has a severe shrapnel wound in the head. Private Drake, Wellington Mounted Rifles, has a smashed shoulder and an explosive bullet wound in the side, but is now making a good recovery. Sergeant-Major Anderson, of Auckland, has several wounds but the one he most laments is the severing of a heel tendon, which will probably impair his' agility in the boxing ring. Trooper G. Mabey and Sergeant F. W. Mothes, Wellington Mounted Rifles, are both quite well again; as are also Trooper J. Stewart and 1 Trooper Cooper, of Feilding, both of the same regiment. Lance-Corporal Round, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, is almost free of the last effects of diphtheria. Private A. D. Harrison, of Canterbury, is making a good recovery from a fracture of the leg, and Private L. P. Minola, of Wellington, is making headway with a smashed elbow. Royal Victoria Hospital. Hall, Hunterville, of the 16th, Waikato, Companv, Auckland Battalion, has come to London from Devonport, where he was treated for a wound in the left thoulder. He is now .--topping with his brother at Winchmore Hill Lieutenant. F. L. G. West, of Auckland, has left Devonport for Honiton, near Sidmouth.
