It is officially reported that a submarine torpedoed and sank the Italian .cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi, in the Adriatic. Most of the crew were saved. The Giuseppe Garibaldi was an armoured cruiser of 7294 tons, completed in 1901. She was armed with one lOin gun, two Bin guns, 14 6in guns 10 2.9 suns, and six I.Bin guns. She had a speed of 20 knots, and carried a normal complement of 540. The Giuseppe Garibaldi is the second Italian cruiser to be sunk by a submarine, the Amain (9956 tons) being lost a fortnight ago. Italy has also lost a submarine and a torpedo-boat since the outbreak of the war.
