NOTICE TO DEAD SOLDIER.
[BT TELF.GE.APH. —SPED AT. CORHESTOXOTXT.] Wellington, Tuesday. Mr.. O. Witty (Riccarton) asked the Minister for Defence whether he would instruct his officers to be more careful in sending out to territorials notices to attend drill. A notice had been sent out to E. M. Manson. at Riccarton, notifying him to attend drill. That man joined the Expeditionary Force in August last, and was killed in the Dardanelles in April, and yet notices were being sent out requesting him to attend the territorial drills. The parents felt it very keenly, especially as they had notified the officers that their son was at lie war. That was not the only case, for a similar one had occurred in his district. A footnote was also put to the notices that the rifles and uniforms should be returned, and yet neither of those young men had had a rifle or uniform from the Department when they were territorials. One had only attended two drills before he left. Mr. Allen : Let me have the particulars and I will inquire into it.
