MISSING FIREMAN.
The Huddart-Pavker steamer' Victoria which was timed to sail from Auckland at ■ 5 p.m. yesterday for Southern ports, was delayed in the stream for over t\to hours. The vessel left her berth at the Queen's Wharf at 5.20 p.m., and then it was found that one of the firemen was missing. Captain Croft accordingly anchored the" vessel, and sent the second officer, second engineer, and purser ashore in, one of the >;; ship's boats to secure another man. After .va fruitless search, however, ' the ship's~ officers were recalled but it was stated! that in the meantime a ..passenger by the ; ; I steamer , had agreed -to fill the ; vacancy. y} . : -, 1 and the ]Victoria, proceeded to sea 7.40•-••>:..;-
