POLICE COURT NEWS.
CHARGES OF DRUNKENNESS. MANY MINOR CASES. Three first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 5s and costs, by Mr. F. V. Frazcr, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday. Three more, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit their bail. William Donnelly was convicted of a charge of drunkenness, and was fined £2 for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. William McKeo, who was similarly charged, was fined £1 and costs. Sophia Mary Ellis was fined £1, and Emma Cockrane £2, for breaches of prohibition orders. MAINTENANCE CASES. W. E. Sehwabc was sentenced to 14 davs' imprisonment for failing to comply with a maintenance order, the warrant to be suspended provided he paid the amount owing within a week. Charles Hailwood was charged with failing to comply with an order of the Court for the maintenance of his son's illegitimate child. An application was also made for the order to bo increased. The defendant stated that his son had gone to the front. Defendant had a large family, and was quito unable to contribute to the support of the child. The magistrate dismissed the case. James Hall was ordered to pay £1 a. week towards the maintenance of his wife. BY-LAW BREACHES. Harry Woods was fined Ss and costs, 7s. for driving a motor-car across the intersection of Queen Street and Victoria Street, and failing to keep the vehicle as near as possible to the left. ' Horace lamb was similarly dealt with for riding a motor-cycle across the intersection of Symonds Street and Khyber Pass Road, and failing to stop when signalled to do so by the constable regulating tho traffic. Maunsell Harding and George da Clive Lowe were each fined for driving a motorcar along Queen Street at nicht without having it properly lighted. Henry Hart for driving a horse and vehicle across tho intersection of Queen Street and Victoria Street at other than a walking pace, was fined 5s and costs, 7s. MISCELLANEOUS CASES. John Edward Murdock, alias Mason, was remanded to appear at New Plymouth on June 30 on a charge of stealing a pair of trousers and a razor, valued at £1 9s, the property of J. T. Weston.
