ROUGH WEATHER ON COAST.

STEAMERS ARRIVE LATE.

Boisterous weather prevailed during tha week-end, but the conditions improved somewhat last night. The sea has been particularly rough on both the cast and west coasts, and several vessels have been detained at various ports, while others: have made longer passages than usual. Tho Victoria, from Southern ports, did not reach port until after 3 p.m. yesterday, the trip from Gisborne occupying! over 28 hours. She was delayed by a strong westerly gale and heavy head seas. Strong southerly winds and high head seas delayed the Atua considerably on the voyage from Suva to Auckland, and shedid not reach port until half-past nine , o'clocK Inst night. The small coastal steamer Weka is detained at Whananaki 'by bad weather, and as she also ran on the mud there owing! to the low tides prevailing, she will probably not arrive back at Auckland until! this afternoon. The Northern Company announces that the Ngatiawa will leave this morning for Coromandel in the Weka's running. • There was a heavy sea running on the Manukan Bar on Saturday, and consequently shipping at Onehunga has been disorganised. The Northern Company's steamer Rimu left Onehunga on Saturday morning for Hokianga, but anchored inside the Manukau Heads until yesterday afternoon. As she was then unable to" cross the bar owing to the heavy seas running she returned to the Onehunga Wharf in the afternoon. Reports received last night stated that the weather on the west coast had moderated considerably, and it was expected that the Rarawa will j be able to cross the Manukau Bar this afternoon for New Plymouth, and tfiat the Rimu would also leave for Raglan and Kawhia.
