FURTHER DONATIONS.

TOTAL OF £11,038' RECEIVED.

Subscriptions amounting to £186 18s were paid into the Herald Hospital Ship and Wounded Soldiers' Relief Fund yesterday, making the total amount received to date £11,038 3s 2d. Sales of stock donated for the benefit of the fund contributed £58 lis lid to the day's takings. Another large donation was one of £32 15s 6d, subscribed by the employees of Joim Burns and Company, Ltd. The latest donations are as follow:— £ s. d. A social, organised by the Matamata dancing class, produced the following amounts Takings at door, £16 5s 7Jd; received by girls who sang " Tipperary," £318s 10§d; sale of odd farthing in collection, £5 18s 3d sale of hand-bag, presented by Mr. Moss, 14s; and stamps, Is 6d; total, £26 8s 3d. Horses and other stock sold by Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Sons, realised the following amounts Pig, given by Mr. John Patterson, £2 5s 7d; stallion, given by j James McLeod, Helensville, £15 15s; bay gelding, given by J. Zainey, £2 2s 6d; chestnut pony, given by Miss Marjorie Bell, £3 10s; bay pony, given by James Donald, £3 7s 6d. A contribution of £10, which was made to the fund yesterday, represented the proceeds of an art union for a miniature, painted by Mrs. Lee, of Remuera. Forty tickets were sold at 5s each, and all the proceeds have been given to the fund. The winning number was held by Mrs. H. E. Vaile.

LANDOWNERS DEFENDED.

WAIRARAPA'S INTENTIONS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] .. Wellington, Friday. At a meeting of the Patriotic Society here this evening, Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P. for Masterton, remarked that it had been said that the landowners did not do their share in the present crisis. As far as Wairarapa was concerned, be said, tho district was not only giving freely of its men, but freely of its wealth. On Thursday evening a flag had been sold f.here for £7000, and on Wednesday next another flag would be sold for a still greater sum. The final purchaser would pay 3000 guineas for the trophy. The Wairarapa, ho said, intended raising £40,000 in its present canvass.
