MAILS TO WAIKATO HEADS.
,■ UNNECESSARY DELAY.
(From the HERALD of Juno 20, 1865.) A reform in the present mode of forwarding our mails -from Drury is so urgently needed, writes our correspondent at Waikato Heads, that the only wonder is no complaint has been made to the proper quarter ere this, but on the principle that " what is everyone's business is nobody's business," I suppose that no one" felt his own conscience would warrant his appeal to headquarters. As a proof of the inconvenience entailed on the community here by the inattention or incompetence of the present contractor, I may mention that the mails are now never delivered in tho day after Ihey are due. lam led to believe that this unwarrantable delay is to be attributed partly to tho postboy from Drury having to make a detour to the Upper Mauku instead of, as formerly, leaving tho mail at Lower Mauku, thereby causing a delay of considerable importance during the winter. The effect is the late arrival of the mail at Waiuku, always after nightfall, and the consequent uncertainty as to its reaching here at all. This state of things is worse than it was five years ago, and tho sooner the interest's of the many people at Waiuku and Port Waikato are considered before the few at Upper Mauku the bettor for all parties. Fortunately a new regime commences next month, and it is to be hoped that the "coming man" as contractor will not "go and do likewise."
