HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Auckland Horticultural Society was held last night at Williamson's Chambers, Shorthand Street, when Mr. W. Handler presided. In the society's eighteenth annual report, presented by the secretary, Mr. W. Satchell, the various shows held during the past year were dealt with, and the satisfactory results commented upon. The thanks of the society were due to the City Council for the support it had given to the cause of horticulture in Auckland, to Mr. Pearson and his staff for exhibits from municipal gardens, to the Auckland Racing Club and its president, the Hon. E. Mitchelson, to the Auckland Education Board, and to others who have aided the society. The following officers hero elected for the coining year:—Patron, His Excellency the Governor, the Earl of Liverpool; vice-patron, the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. .1. If. Giuison; president, Mr. Henry Brett; vice-presidents, the Hon, E*. .Mitchelson, Mr. A. M. Myers, M.P., Mr. A. P. W. Thomas, Mr. J. W. Tihbs, M.A. ; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. Goldie; lion, auditor, Mr. P. R. Fraser, F.P.A.; hon. solicitor, Mr. F. H. Williamson; lion, auctioneer, Mr. E. A. Perkins. The election to replaco- *u'e members who retired from the' .»,Mnittee, and all of who, save one, \.*to eligible for reelection, resulted as follows :—Messrs. D. Hay. T. E. Pearson, J. Rock, N. Thomas, C. Harrckilde, and George Mills.
