FRENCH CRUISER BOMBARDS AN ISLAND.
DESTRUCTION OF VILLAGES AND BENZINE DEPOTS.
BOMBARDMENT PROVOKED BY INHABITANTS. (Received May 31, 10.15 p.m.) Athens, May 31. A pinnace from the Jeanne rl'Arc, a French armoured cruiser, which has been used as a training ship for midshipmen, was reconnoitring villages near Castelorizo, a small island off Asia Minor, when she was fired at by the inhabitants. Several of the crew were killed. The Jeanne d'Arc bombarded and destroyed a number of villages, blew up several benzine depots, and seized a cargo of benzine.
