DURATION OF THE WAR.
SOMETHING PREPARING.
HINT BY FRENCH MINISTER.
Paris, May 7.
M. Ribot, French Minister for Finance, states that France's expenses on the war during April were between £56,000,000 and £60,000,000 sterling. France was giving Britain 500,000,000 francs in gold, for which England was opening a credit of three times as much for goods bought in the Empire. In order to prevent an outrageous rise in prices of war goods, a single delegate would do all the buying in foreign countries on behalf of the British, Russian, and French War Offices. He only asked the Chamber of Deputies to vote credit for three months, though he had asked for six months on the last occasion. He was able to state that certain things were in course of preparation, which would have a considerable bearing on the duration of the war, but, whatever the duration, France was sworn to bring it to a logical end. with the help of her allies, and would go the whole way.
