KING OF DENMARK.

SURGICAL OPERATION.

(Received April 5, 2 a.m.)

Copenhagen, April 4. The King of Denmark has undergone a successful operation for intestinal fissure.

THE SINGAPORE RIOT.

MUTINEERS ROUNDED UP.

NARRATIVE OF A LADY. The wife of an English official, describing tho recent outbreak of native troops in Singapore, writes " I telephoned to the gaol and found that the situation was serious. A mutiny had occurred among a native regiment, and the native gunners, and all the German prisoners had escaped. The women and children took refuge in the gaol. " All day the volunteers were hunting the brutes down. Ninety-nine prisoners were brought to the gaol, including the ring-leader, a native officer, who was an awful-looking beast, with a fierce face and fluffy black beard. Ho was wounded in the shoulder, and his picturesque white draperies and turban were soaked with blood. He is a bad character, and I hope lie will be shot or hung. He is in the cell below us, chanting the Koran in a monotonous voice. "The French cruiser had left a week ago, but a Marconigram recalled her, and her sailors have done splendid work in rounding up the mutineers, Japanese volunteers assisting, together with the men of a British warship. " I hear that there has been a battle at the racecourse, and that the rebels have been surrounded. It is stated that some of the mutineers went quietly about in couples, deliberately shooting every European man and woman they met. I do not know how many were wounded."
