The Daily Chronicle, rebutting attacks on Lord Haldane, states that Lord Haldane on August 2 was assisting Mr. Asquith at the War Office. They then decided that Far] Kitchener should become War Minister. The Foreign Office hesitated, desiring that Earl Kitchener should remain in Egypt. Mr. Asquith, however, recalled Earl Kitchener. It is not true that the appointment was due to newspaper agitation.
