THE HUNTLY DISASTER.

MINES TO REOPEN.

PROBABLY NEXT MONDAY.

EXPLOSIVES EX ROUTE.

These is every probability that the Huntly mines will be reopened nest Monday.

Inquiries made yesterday elicited the information that the Taupiri Coal Mines Company has secured shipment of the parcel of "permitted" explosives obtained in Australia by a Newcastle steamer due to arrive at Auckland in time to enable operations in the mines to be resumed at the beginning of next week. The consignment en route consists of about 200 cases, which should be sufficient for two months full working time in the mines. By the end of that period it is hoped the company will have secured the explosives for which a cabled order was sent Home when the mines were closed on September 12. This latter consignment will, of course, be subject to the shipping conditions brought about by the war, making the actual date of its arrival somewhat uncertain. Should it come to hand at the expected date, however, there should bo no further hindrance to the continuance of mining in the company's properties. No definite date has yet been fixed for the sitting of the special Com t of Arbitration set up by the Government to inquire into the safey or otherwise of monobel, the explosive- hitherto used in the Huntly mines. Delay is unlikely as the arbitrators have been requested by the Government to expedite their investigations. The Court is to sit in Auckland.
