LOSS OF SHOPS.
FIRE AT WARKWORTH.
THREE BUILDINGS BURNED.
fBT TELEGRAPH.OWN
Warkworth, Thursday. A fire broke out in a block of buildings in the centre of the Warkworth township at 11.30 p.m. on Monday, resulting in the total destruction of shops occupied by Mr. Craig, tailor, Mr. Dymock, bootmaker, and a cottage occupied by Mr. J. Clayden. The buildings were all owned by Mr. Clayden.
Only the strenuous efforts of a bucketDrigade prevented the fire from spreading further. The adjoining premises, occupied by Mr. N. Whaley, cabinetmaker, were slightly damaged. The origin of the fire is a mystery.
Mr. Clayden's furniture was saved, but Messrs. Craig and Dymock lost all their stock. Mr. Craig had his stock insured for £100 in the Commercial Union Office; Mr. Dymock had his stock covered for £70 in the Royal Office, and the buildings, including that occupied by Mr. Whaley, were insured in the Royal Office for £600. In each case the loss was considerably above the insurance.
