" BELGIAN WEEK" PROPOSED.

1 No time is to be lost by the citizens of Auckland in instituting a campaign to raise funds for the relief of the homeless Belgians. At the meeting held on Wednesday it was left to the Mayor and Mr. Robert Burns, Acting-Vice-Consul for Belgium, to form an executive committee. This task was completed yesterday, and the personnel of the executive is as follows : —The Mayor and Mr. Burns (ex officio), Mesdames Parr, Burns, and Volkner, Messrs. E. Anderson, A. S. Bankart, A. C. Canghey, A. 0. Limn, W. H. Pounlney, Charles Rhodes, and Wesley Spragg. The executive committee met in the council chamber of the Town Hall yesterday afternoon and various proposals as to the best method of raising funds were discussed.

It was decided that a "Belgian Week" should be held, and the Civic League offered, through the Mayoress, to undertake a street collection in that week. The offer was accepted with thanks. It was decided to divide the district into areas, and a sub-committee was set up to appoint canvassers.

The. Mayor was asked to make an appeal to the Mayors of the suburban boroughs to assist in promoting a thorough canvass of their respective districts. It was further decided to make a similar appeal to the Mayors of country boroughs and the chairmen of town boards and county councils.
