WAR IN THE PACIFIC.
ANOTHER ISLAND SEIZED. WIRELESS DESTROYED. Sydney, October 22. Reports of the recent operations in the Pacific state that one of the allies' warships visited Angaur Island, in the Caroline Group, landed armed crews, arrested the German officials, and destroyed the wireless station. The Norwegian barque Remonstraut has arrived from Jaluit. She was previously chartered by the Germans to take a cargo of West port coal to Matupi, in New Britain, afterwards proceeding to the Marshall Group to load copra. Being a neutral, she suffered no inconvenience. While she was at Jaluit a fleet of German colliers arrived after coaling the German fleet. CAPTURE OF THE COMET. GERMAN CREW SURPRISED. Sydney, October 22. Further news of the capture of the German gunboat Comet states that the vessel cleared out from Rabaul upon the approach of the Australian forces. After the seizure of the wireless station messages were constantly tapped indicating that the Comet was despatching news to the German squadron concerning the occupation. Eventually news of her hiding place Mas gleaned. Armed forces under Lieutenant Jackson, accompanied by Colonel Patton. with a detachment of infantry, led by a native guide, proceeded to the north coast of New Guinea, where they discovered the Comet warped to the bank of a river, completely covered in greenery. The Germans were greatly surprised when the party sprang aboard and seized the v.- - The party fn"nr> ~ powerful wireless plant installed, capable of transmitting long-distance messages.
