NEW METHODIST CHURCH.

DOMINION ROAD STRUCTURE.

Suppoeters of the Methodist Church, Dominion Road, held a meeting about 18 months ago and decided that the time had arrived for them to remove the old wooden church in Dominion Road, which has done duty for many years, and to erect a more pretentious building in its stead. The sum of £300 was promised thero and then towards a building fund and since then further subscriptions have been promised and received until the total has been brought up to £1500. Lately plans and specifications for the new building have been prepared by Mr. H. E. White and a contract has been let to Mr. C. Page, of Kingsland, for £1960. Unlike the old structure, the new church, work upon which lias already commenced, is to be of brick; it is of Gothic design, and is being erected on the site of the old church, which has been moved to another site, and with the addition of a basement containing 11 classrooms has been converted into an admirable Sunday-school capable of meeting all requirements for'many years to come. The new church will be able to accommodate 350 worshippers, and provision has been made in the plans for the addition of a transcept, which will accommodate another 200 persons. The foundation stone of the new church will be laid on November 19, but prior to that ceremony, on November 3 and 4, a bazaar which the ladies of the church •are now making preparationswill be held in the church grounds, when, it is hoped, a satisfactory sum of money will be. raised. Allowing for the debt of |£213 on the old church, the total liability in respect of the building schema is £2700. As already stated, some £1500 has already been promised towards the scheme, and if the bazaar is the success its promoters expect it to be, the deficit upon the new church, when it is finally open for public worship, will be in no way alarming.
