OCCIDENTAL.

The manager of the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, reports that in the south stope over No. 5 level. No. 2 reef is showing good ore in winch "old has been seen at each breaking down. Below No. 5 level the lode produced » few dabs of coarse gold when broken down last week. The ore is all being saved for treatment. Tho Occidental reef where being worked is making stronger and shows a little gold when broken down. The general ore on hand is to be crushed this week. NEW WAITAIA. The north drive at the low level in the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotumt, is now in 65ft on the reef. Ihe manager reports that the lode is from 12iii to isin wide and shows strong colours of gold and gives very fair dish prospects. °At the intermediate level the 'lending stopo north of No. 3 rise is in 15ft. the *reef j showing good payable ore. No. 2 rise south of the mam crosscut is up I*3ft. The formation is making quartz at the south end, showing that 'the run is makj ing in the direction as expected. This I rise will shortly connect with the winze ! from No. 5 level. NEW CAMBRIA. The drive on the hangingwall of tho reef in the New Cambria mine, Thames, has been cleaned out- and timbered up to the face. The manager reports that tho reef looks promising. ROSS GOLD FIELD. Tbt telegraph.— press association.] Wellington, Wednesday. The Ross mine supeiintenacnt ropdi-ts fo- the week ended October 15 that at No. Ci level blocking has been continued off No 4 crosscut. In No. 7 level, the west drive is out 100 ft, and the north drive 155 ft from No. 7 flat. At the intermediate. connection has been effected by No. 2 shoot with the floor of No. 2 wing drive, and the main level below. The north-west and south-east faces of No. 2 wing drive are now out 103 ft and 15!t respectively, from No. 2 shoot, and the wash passed through during the past fortnight varied from fair grade to payable. The drives off No. 2 wing drive have been extended. Both faces are in pay wash.
