BOROUGH COUNCILS.
NORTHCOTE AFFAIRS. At a meeting' of tho JPorthcote Borough Council there were present: The Mayor, Mr. G. Fraser, and Messrs. E. Stihvell, Arthur E. Greensiade, J. B. Tonar, H. H. Hunt, J. T. Fearnfev. J Bmady, and R. H. P. Hopkiny. Tho waterworks engineer reported that 1.318,00: gallons of ' water had been pumped during (ho month, of which 565,000 hal been supplied to the 'Mapuna Borough. The level of Lake Takapuna was sft 6in above high water sea level. It was decided to niako a further application to the Takaptma Borough Council for payment of the amount of £200 owing for water supplied, now that the commission had investigated the accounts between the Takapuna Borough and the Waitemata County. The turncock was instructed to extend the water main into Alfred Street at an estimated cost of £55. It was decided to accept the offer of the Takapuna Council of the use of the Takapuna pound, and to thank tho Takapuna Council for the courtesy extended. Messrs. Hammond and Cracknel], on behalf of Mr. W. A. Spurrell, forwarded a deposit of £25 towards the expenses about to bo incurred in connection with the closing of a portion of Sea View Avenue. It was resolved to institute a monthly collection of refuse within the borough, trie details to bo arranged by the Works Committee. The report upon the sewage scheme was referred to the council in committee. OTAHUHU. At a meeting of the Otahuhu Borough l Council there were present: The Mayor, Mr. A. Sturges, and Messrs. H. J. Hall, J. Atkinson, W. J. O'Hara, W. McMullen, A. Lowe, J. Brady, R. L. Absolum, and J. Wilson. It was resolved to contribute £50 towards ,the expenses of the expeditionary force. The Mayor promised a cheque for £25 for the same purpose. The secretary to the Auckland Harbour Board wrote stating that he had been directed to inform the council that its request that the board erect a landing stage at the foot of Portage Road, Westfield, would be favourably considered in six months' time, when the estimates for 1915 were under consideration. Ho desired to know what would be the probable volume of traffic over the landing. A letter from the secretary to. the Department of Internal Affairs inquired {whether the council had appointed a building inspector, and whether it had made regulations under section 345 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, as amended by section 46 (a) of the Amendment Act of 1913. Tho Mayor said the building going on in the borough was not df sufficient .importance to warrant the appointment of an inspector. He suggested that the clerk write to the Department to that effect, and this course was adopted. The . Water and Drainage Committee recommended that the applications of tho boating and sailing clubs to be relieved of the. minimum charge for water and to pay only for the water they used be ' granted. The report was adopted.
