ASSAULTED WITH SOUP.
A commkkhal traveller, Mr. John Andrews, was awarded £15 damages in the City of London Court recently in an action for assault against Mr. Arthur Winby, who poured a basin- of thick oxtail soup over him in :i public house. Mr. Andrews said that he went to the public house for lunch, and was supplied, as usual, with his own private serviette. When ho had finished he folded it up, leaving it on the table. Mr. Winby then entered and ordered some thick "oxtail soup. "When it was brought," said Mr. Andrews, "he took up my serviette. I told him it was my own serviette. He then picked up the basin of soup, which was a veiy full portion, and poured it over me. It smothered my head and clothes, which, of course, were spoiled. "I wiped off as much of it as I could, and protested against his undignified behaviour. Ho then jeered at me, and referred disparagingly to what he called my 'twenty-four bob suit'" Mr. Andrews said that Mr. Winby had evidently been drinking heavily. The Bench described it as a " very gross outrage," and gsve costs on the higher scale.
