ADVICE TO RHODESIANS.

RENEWAL OF THE CHARTER. QUOTATION MISUSED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received March 17, 11.20 p.m.) „ London, March 17. The attention of the House of Commons yesterday was drawn by Mr. Swift MacNeill (Nationalist M.P. for South Donegal) to the speech by Sir L. S. Jameson telling the settlers of Rhodesia on the authority of the Colonial Office that they must vote for a renewal of the charter of the Chartered Company, or be absorbed in the South African Union. Mr. MacNeill described the Chartered Company. ,as a gang of swindlers. Mr. L. Harcourt (Colonial Secretary), in reply, said that Sir. L. Jameson's quotation of the Colonial Office letter was wholly divorced from the context. There was no justification for its use for electioneering* purposes.
