SURGICAL MARVELS.
CLAIM BY PROFESSOR. WONDERFUL OPERATION. Times and Sydney Sun Services. (Received Maryh 17, 5.30 p.m.) London, March 17. The claim is made by Professor Kennedy,, of Glasgow, that he has discovered by experiments that it is possible where it is impracticable to have it united for a divided nerve to complete a junction between its degenerated portion and any other convenient nerve, and the brain will adapt itself to its new functions. A patient was operated upon in the Academy of Medicine at Paris yesterday, a part of the peritoneum being replaced by a sheet of rubber.
The peritoneum is the smooth serous membrane which lines the cavity of the abdomen, or the whole body cavity when there is no diaphragm, and, turning back, surrounds the viscera, forming a closed, or nearly closed, sac.
