Reuters Agency reports that the Acting-Governor of San Salvador (Portuguese Lower Guinea) states that the missionary, the Rev. J. S. Bowskill, was arrested for acting as leader of the disaffected natives in .the. recent revolt, and for allowing the mission station to be used as a base to besiege the Portuguese fort.

The Baptist Missionary Society has received advices from Matadi, dated about the middle of February, showing that after peace had been declared, following on Mr. Bowskill's efforts at mediation, the Portuguese officials arrested a number of the native Christians. The effect was electrical. War was renewed, and the town of San Salvador was burned to the ground. The Portuguese were driven within their fortress. The besieged men were short of water. ,

The rebels threatened to shoot everyone trying to reach the water. The whole country was excited, and Mr. Bowskill told the Portuguese officials in charge of the fortress that their action had inflamed the country. The Governor then detained Mr. Bowskill.
