THROWN FROM EXPRESS. BOY'S WONDERFUL ESCAPE. [by telegbaph.— association.] Wanganot, Friday. A lad named Wilson, who was coming down to Wanganui on the Auckland express, was jerked from the platform of the tram at Korewa, near Marton, yesterday. He was not missed by those on the train. He fell heavily on his head and hands, but walked some distance to a house, where he collapsed and became unconscious. Medical aid was sought and the lad was subsequently brought to tl» Wanganui Hospital. No bones were broken. The sufferer is progressing favourably. ACCIDENT ON MAMABI. CHIEF ENGINEER KILLED. [by telegraph.— association.] Napier, Friday. *• David Wynd, chief engineer of the Mamari, now loading in the bay, was found in a bunker yesterday morning. It is supposed he fell down while inspecting. He was removed to the hospital and died. He was 35 years of age, and leaves ft wife and four children in London. A MINER'S DEATH. DUE TO ACCIDENT. [BY TELEGRAPH.— association.] Rexfton, Friday. An .inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Downie, who was accidentally killed in the Energotic mines on January .17, was resumed. Mr. Evans, general manager, was called to give details of the salaries paid to Downing and the manager. The coroner ruled that the question was irrelevant. No new evidence was elicited, and the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, adding a rider to the effect that the accident '**! due to the disobedience of the orders of. the mine manager, and recommending as a safeguard to . workmen that stnct attention in future be paid to the mine manager's orders.
