OLD KAPANGA MINE VENTTfRE. [BT IBLEQEAPH.—OWN COEEESPONDKNT. ] Cosomandel, Friday. Messrs. Toney, Petrie, and a syndicate are erecting an extensive plant for the treatment of tailings from the Old Kapanga mine. The scene of the syndicate's venture is at Driving Creek, and the plant is designed to handle and treat the deposit of tailings run out from the old battery. Assays of the stuff the syndicate have to start on show higher values than the material being treated at Ohinemuri by the Waihi-Paeroa Gold Extraction Company. The services of Mr. E. J. Banks, of Waihi and Waitekauri, have been secured to manage the plant. Mr. Banks is an expert metallurgist, who has had special experience in the treatment of ores and tailings in some of the most up-to-date plants now in operation. The new machinery being erected will provide for the treatment of the tailings by both grinding and cyanide. ' GOLDEN BELT COMPANY, LTD.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of shareholders in the Golden Belt Gold Mining Company, Limited, was field yesterday, j and was presided over by the chairman,! Mr. H. T. Gnrrie. The directors' report stated that in the I early part of the last* half-year the rise from the low level was holed through to; the intermediate level, better ventilation j thus being obtained for that portion of the mine. The aerial tram and battery had been overhauled and put into working order. Since then ore had been won from the No. 1 intermediate and low levels, with satisfactory results—2fs tons having been treated for a return oi £665 17s 3d. The mine manager, Mr. A. A. Adams, reported that during the year the Champion North claim was acquired by the company, and the No. 1 level, which was in a bad state of repair, had been cleaned out and re-timbered. Stoping operations had been commenced in the Champion North section, and the ore broken and sent to the mill averaged £3. per ton., He considered that to all appearance there was a valuable block of ore at that poin*. , In the No. 2 level the Perseverance reef had 1 been driven . on for a distance bf.lo4ftsouth and 43ft north, several short lenses of payable ore being passed through, The ore in the intermediate and low levelß was of a good payable quality. The work of . connecting the No. 1 and No. 3 levels has been commenced, which would ventilate the stopes in the Champion North section, would also explore the large block of, virgin ground (280 ft) between the levels. On the whole, the manager considered that ' the future prospects of the Golden Belt mine were decidedly good. j The balance-sheet disclosed a very satis-1 factory position. Messrs. H. H. Adams; and R. Mitchelson, the retiring directors, were re-elected. Mr. R. E. Isaacs was reappointed auditor. THAMES DRAINAGE BOARDWORK OF THE PA"ST YEAR. The annual balance-sheet was submitted, showing the estimated assets at £2395 17s 3d, and the liabilities at £2224 13s 6d, leaving an apparent credit balance of £171 3s 9d. Mr. A. C. MacDiarmid, manager of the Thames-Hauraki pump, was in attendance at the meeting, and, in connection with an inquiry concerning the cost of working the pump, submitted a detailed statement.'
