BIG PRICES REALISED.
[BT THLEGBAPH.—HRESB association.] '; \ Hastings, Friday. > The annual ram fair, under the auspices of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, commenced on the Show Grounds yesterday. The entries totalled 6050, as compared with 6222 last year. There was a. representative attendance of buyers, who created - only fair competition for Lincolns, but Southdowns were 1 much more sought after. Prices ranged up to 13£gns. A fair demand ' also ruled ; for Shropshire stud rams. There was keen rivalry for a line of eight Lincolns, bred by and sold .on account of Mr. G. V. Pearce, M.P. for Patea, at prices ranging from 22gns to 62ghs. • '. '
The third annual stud ram sale of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheepbreeders' Association was held in conjunction with the fair. Forty rams were offered, 23 of which were sold. The top price (60gns) was paid by Mr. J. Macfarlane for Earl Gordon 2nd, a one-shear ram bred by Mr. A. L. Wheeler (Halcombe). The fair was continued to-day, the bidding on the whole being dull. One or two lots, however, elicited keen competition. A line bred by E. Eglinton Featherston, realised from 4gns to 20gns! Among the others, the best sales were at llgns and lOgns.
