TAKAPUNA. A meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council was held last evening, when them were present, the Mayor (Mr. E. W. Alison) and Messrs. W. Blomfield, A. E. Waraock, S. H. Bins, F. W. Fuller ion, E. Grimwade, and J. Collins. It was decided to endorse the dedication of liawhiti and'Karere Koaas. The engineer of the Waitemata County Council (Mr. G. A. Jackson), wrote, under instructions, notifying the JtSorough Council that it must not remove material from the County Council's quarry without permission. The Mayor said that the quarry was likely to be of UoC only to those in the locality, and, further, that when the Borough Council was organised, the quarry appeared as one of its original assets. A deputation consisting of the Mayor and Messrs. Blomfield and Grimv.ade was appointed to meet the County Council in connection with the matter. A communication received trom the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company referred to the new time-table recently brought into operation, which provided for an hourly car service through the evening. The company was unable to commence the running of a half-hour service, owing to an insufficient i store of coke, a daily supply only being available. In view of the consequent liability to overcrowd the cars, it was decided that the company bo requested to provide a sufficient number of cars to meet public requireIn connection with a scheme for providing bathing accommodation and sanitary conveniences on the Takapuna and Milford beaches, the council received a communication from its solicitor Replying to an inquiry as to whether the council was within its rights in expending a sum up to £1000 on the improvements, he stated that the council had authority to meet building expenses to that amount out of the district fund account, without consulting the ratepayers on the matter. It was, nevertheless, thought advisable that in the case of such intended expenditure, the ratepayers should first be informed. . The' lack of adequate accommodation for bathers at the northern end of Takapuna Beach was referred to in a letter from Mr W. E. Swain It was his proposal that the council should grant him permission to erect between 60 and 60 cubicles, each sufficient for the accommodation of one person on his section near the Hon Desir Hotel. For the use of 'these ho would gjiarge a nominal sum, and was agreeable to erect further cubicles should the council consider it advisable, His stipulation was that the council should compel bathers to use the cubicles A considerable amount of discussion followed tho reading of this letter, it being eventually pointed out by Mr. Biss that the council did not have control of the beach. The Mayor remarked that the suggestion was worthv of ion 'he section in question being admirably suited for the purpose Consideration ot the question was deferred Owing to the small number of members prosent at the meeting it was thought advisable to postpone the election of the borough s representative on the Board of Control for the Takapuna water supply until the next meeting.
