DEVOTION OF AN INDIAN. " ' / By Telegraph— Association—Copyright. Calcutta, January 26. A terrible affair is reported from this city. When her baby died, the widowed mother, a girl of 14, prepared a funeral pyre in a corner of her bedroom unknown to anybody. She saturated her clothing with kerosene, and setting it alight, lay on the pyre. ' , The mass blazed up, and a female relative who heard the crackling rushed in, pulled the mother off, and quenched the flames, despite the protests of the girl, who afterwards died from the effects of her burns.
