OPINION ON THE TRIAL.

London, January 21. The Commonwealth officials here arc amazed at the dismissal of the case brought against four merchants on a charge of conspiracy to defraud the Customs of duties on motor-cars imported into Australia. The costs of the case are estimated at £5000.

By Telegraph.— rross Association.— Copyright (Received January '22, 12.30 a.m.) London, January 21. The Joint Advisory Committee of the United Kingdom, appointed under the Insurance Act, has approved of the regulations framed to reduce the scale of benefits to those in arrears with their payments. The committee has fixed the penalties for arrears.
