KING'S EMPIRE VETERANS.

WORK OF THE PAST YEAR. There was a satisfactory attendance at the thirteenth annual general meeting of the members of the King's Empire Veterans, held in the Town Hall last evening. Major T. Broun occupied the chair, and the annual report and financial statement were read by the secretary, Captain J. Stichbury. During the past year the deaths of 15 old members have been recorded, and 38 new members have been elected, making the present strength of the membership roll 415- Three parades were held during the year, and the usual annual picnic took place on December 20. Through the kindness of the Hon. W. F. Massey and the Minister for Railways the country members were granted free railway passes on that occasion.

Letters wero received from the Countess of Ranfurly, acknowledging a letter of condolence trom the veterans on the death of her father; and from Lord Northland, in answer to congratulations extended to him on his marriage. The election of officers for the ensuing year was proceeded with, all those having held office during the past year being re-elected, with the exception of three of the committee, who notified their inability to attend meetings. It was proposed by Colonel R. B. Morrow, that in recognition of Captain Stichbury's untiring activities as hon. secretary of the King's Empire Veterans he should be presented with a suitably engraved sword. This suggestion was approved by a large number of speakers, who warmly eulogised the work done by their secretary. Major Grant then moved that a sum not exceeding £10 be set aside out of the funds, in order to make the suggested presentation to Captain Stichbury. This was seconded by Mr. J. Bain, and a committee, consisting" of Colonel R. B. Morrow and Majors J. Grant and T. Broun, was appointed to carry the resolution, into effect.
