FOOTBALL.

UNDER LEAGUE RULES.

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

A meeting called for Friday evening last by the recently-disqualified Auckland League collapsed through want of a quorum. The players of the code and the club delegates were noticeably absent. The absence of even the prominent suspended officials certainly indicates what interest they take in their own affairs, and of their past endeavours. The affiliated clubs did not roll up with any enthusiasm, and it was a significant fact that even the old officials showed little enthusiasm, and apparently did not care how things went. The players certainly require some notification of the past season's work and how matters stand, and certainly should be enlightened on the affairs for the year just ended. In the present circumstances it looks as if the players, in not supporting the old league, are anxious for the change, and are looking forward to what the result will be. No matter what the opinions are and where the sympathies lie in this present unfortunate position the players must recognise the governing body and the rules and laws of the constitution. To follow these out they must sink their opinions and forget and forgive by playing the game this year with unity and determination. The tour of the Englishmen and the visit of the New Zealanders to Australia, combined with the visits of country leagues during the Exhibition, marks an epoch in the history of the game. This may easily be marred if the wiser counsels "do not prevail, and it would perhaps not be out of place to suggest to the players to accept the present position by getting in and assisting the fathers of the game by pushing it along this year with more zest titan previously.
