ROSS GOLDFIELDS.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.
The report of the superintendent of the Ross Goldfields for the weekly period ended January 15, states that No. 2 shoot drive in the 6th level had been extended to 64ft from the opening, in wash of fair quality. No. 3 shoot to 72ft was also in wash of slightly improved quality. North drive had been driven to 88ft. The wash was of fair quality. About 4ft of wash of a payable quality was being carried in west drive, which had been driven to 36ft. In Cassius workings, west drive on the north side of tho old shaft was driven to 52ft. The wash was poor. This drive was stopped and the party started in east drive, on the south side of Cassius workings. The power plant, races, and tunnels were in good order. DOMINION. During the past week good progress was made by the contractors in extending the east crosscut at the low level, Dominion mine, Karangahake. The face was advanced 71ft. The No. 2 deviation drive was in 339 ft from the starting point. A fault was met with crossing the drive at right angles, and is still being penetrated. The country was heavily mineralised, and water was issuing freely from the face. WATCHMAN. The middle parallel reef at the Watchman mine, Tararu, measures about 3ft wide, including the hangingwall and footwall. It has nice sulphide seams running through it. In No. 2 stope, above No. la level, the reef is about 3ft wide, and is heavily charged with sulphides and zinc blende. All the ore broken is being saved for treatment.
