DEVONPORT COUNCIL.
The Devonport Borough Council met last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. W. Handley), and Messrs. D. W. McLean. J. C. Webster, J. K. Harty, A. M. Pickford, A. Lloyd, P. N. McCallum, Jno. Henderson, A. Quartley, and A. Nixon.
A request from Mr. R. H. Harrison for p mission to run amusements on the forest was declined.
A letter was received from the North Shore Aquatic and Advancement Association, stating that a scow had recently anchored in the protected mooring ground on Queen's Parade, and asking that the matter be brought under the notice of the Auckland Harbour Board. It was decided to forward the letter to th? Harbour Board. The Mayor was appointed as the representative of the council on the Lake Takapuna Board of Control, constituted under the legislation passed during the recent session of Parliament. A letter was received from Superintendent Hugo, stating that his services would be available for the purpose of reporting on a fire prevention scheme for the borough, and that he would shortly make a visit to Devonport. The telegraph engineer notified that the cost of connecting the pumping station telephone with the Devonport exchange would be £6, the annual rental £15 15s, and the entrance fee £I._ It was decided to defer the question pending the receipt of further information. Tenders were received for felling trees on the Mount Victoria Domain, and on the Lovers' Walk at Cheltenham Beach. They were referred to the Streets Committee.
