A VISITORS IMPRESSIONS.
—Three friends from England have been touring through New Zealand, and desire very briefly to put on record their impressions before leaving. With the country, both thermal and otherwise, we are more than delighted, and take away nothing but the very pleasantest recollections. At the, Government tourist offices we have received uniform kindness and consideration, but our experience on coaches, boats, and rail leaves much to be desired in both islands. Courtesy, which costs nothing, but makes all the difference between comfort and irritation to strangers, seems for some inexplicable reason to be mistaken for weakness, and in order to appear "independent" {a sadly misunderstood term), indifference and often rudeness are substituted for it. New Zealand is a great country, abounding in natural wealth and opportunities, and needs nothing but every-day common sense and sound judgment to make it one of the most stable, and desirable places in the world. With its fine example of short hours and high wages we are in complete ' accord, but believe better work to be an indispensable accompaniment. This and common courtesy will carry it far, but indifference to either will hang like a millstone round the neck of its future development. Sincere Well-wishers.
