NEW ZEALANDERS AT HOME

[FROM our own CORRESPONDENT.] IyONDON, November 28. Tun Hon. T. Mackenzie, who represents New Zealand at the International Conference on Safety of Life at Sea, has been made a member of the committee formed to consider life-saving appliances.

Dr. J. A. Macdonald, chairman of the couii.il of the British Medical Association, is going out to ,s'w Zealand as delegate to the conference to be held in Auckland early next year. Dr. Macdonald belong* to Taunton.

Callers at the High Commissioner's Office dining yesterday and to-day were:—Miss Sandimau (Napiei), Mr. J. W. Kandiman, Miss C. Shearer (Dunedini, Miss E. G. Badgers (Invercargill), Mr. A. Myers, M.P., and Mrs. Myers (Auckland), Dr. L. J. Thompson (Feilding).

The following New Zealand-bound passengers by the steamer Morea are sailing to-day from Tilbury:— Mr. W. Holgate, Mrs. Holgate, Mr. J. W. Wycheiley, Miss Whiting, Miss F. E. Wetmore, Mr. C. Smith, Mr. W. Lister, Mr. F. H. Lee, Mr. P. A. Barlow, Mr. and Mrs. T. Benfield.

At Barrow yesterday Lady Islington performed the ceremony of naming and launching the new Super-Dreadnought, Emperor of India, at the works of Messrs. Vickers, Ltd. Amongst those present were the Roumanian Minister and a number of foreign naval attaches. . After the religious service Lady Islington named the vessel and then drew back three small electroplated levers, thus releasing the dogshores. There followed an anxious halfminute, the spectators watching in tense silence until the great grey hull slowly began to move. As a souvenir of the occasion Lady Islington received a diamond brooch, and in a pretty speech she regretted the absence of her husband in India.
