THAMES DEEP LEVELS. i CROSSCUT DRIVEN 467 FEET, ' , [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] * Thames, Saturday. 1 The main crosscut at the 1000 ft level is * still passing through a good class of country for working, and has now been driven | a total distance of 467 ft by the present contractors, leaving a further 60ft to drive i to pass out of the Waiotahi ground into the Kuranui-Caledonian, and 183 ft to com-

Good progress is being made with the extension of the crosscut at the 1000 ft level, and a total distance of 244 ft lias been driven from the main south drive. This leaves a further 56ft to drive to where it is expected to cut the Vanguard reef. This crosscut is now passing through a good channel of sandstone country, and a mixed quartz formation, about 2ft in thickness, was met with during the week. It is running across at a long angle in an east and west direction. No gold has been seen in it, but the quartz is of a kindly nature, and carrying favourable mineral indications. SAXON. [by telegraph. —OWN correspondent.] Thames, Saturday. The crosscut to intersect the Cardigan reefs is being continued at No. 7 level, and is now passing through a bar of very hard rock, which appears now to be of greater extent than was of first supposed. The total distance driven from the chamber is now 293 ft, which leaves a further 250 ft to drive to reach a point where the Cardigan reefs were operated on at the No. 6 level. WAIOTAHI. Work in this mine is now confined to the sinking of the main shaft, which has now reached a depth of 142 ft below the No. 7 level, and is passing through a favourable channel of country for progress, and the work is being carried on as speedily as possible with four six-hour shifts. MOANATAIARI. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The crosscut along the eastern side of the main slide at No. 3 level has now been driven a total distance of 167 ft northward from the point where the No. 1 Caledonian reef was cut off by the.slide, and so far the eastern continuation of the i reef has not been picked up. The crosscut is passing through a good channel of sandstone country, and there is now a- strong flow of water issuing from the face, which i is usually considered to be an indication of the proximity of a reef of some description.
