DOMINION DAY.
It is six years ago to-day since New Zealand was proclaimed a Dominion. So far as Auckland is concerned there will be very little observance of the day as a holiday. The banks and Stock Exchange will be closed, but the shops and the majority of business premises will remain open as usual. None of the schools will close. Special reference to the day will be made in the course of the usual work in the schools. A circular was recently issued stating that Dominion Day would not be observed as a holiday by the general division of the Post and Telegraph Department, says a Press Association message from Wellington. When asked about the circular, the Post-master-General stated to-day that it was issued in accordance with the commissioner's holiday regulations, and it was proposed to allow the employees an extra day when on annual leave by way of compensation. However, the commissioner had listened to further representations on the subject, with the result that the day would be observed as a holiday in the usual way. i
