KAIPARA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the executive of the Kaipara Chamber of Commerce was held at Dargaville on Monday (writes our Dargaville correspondent), there being present Messrs. E. C. Smith (chairman), P. A. Jones, J. Hogg, and F. J. Dargavillo. A communication was received from the Hon. W. H. Hemes that he would visit Dargaville at the end of the session, and would be pleased to confer with the chamber on all matters relating to Kaipara. The chairman reported that th» cargo sfarvico from Helensville -was now satisfactory, and that business people had no cause for complaint. ' Tho Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote that a report of the Kairara gum areas was being prepared, and on receipt of it he would further communicate with the chamber. Mr. Smith moved the motion standing in his name, /'That in districts where there are no shemistß or druggists it be permissible for :storeJteepei-a to Bell medicinal goods on tho statutory halfholiday." He pointed out that country storekeepers were frequently placed in an embarrassing position when called upon to dispense proprietary medicines daring closed hours, and in speaking for tho storekeepers he gave his assurance that the proposition had no bearing on the question of monetary profit. It was decided to defer discussion till next quarterly meeting. It was decided on the motion of Mr. Dargaville to urge the Government to support the proposals of the Forestry Commission regarding the Waipoua Forest, and strongly to recommend the sale of all timber standing _on Crown lands in the Waipotia district with the exception of that contained in the proposed reserve of 200 acres. It was decided to request the Government to extend the Kaihn Valley Railway beyond Wairua to. Donnelly's crossing, and to errant authority for the work during the current session. It was decided to request the Minister for Railways to arrange that, with the exception of Saturdays, the train should leave Dargaville at a uniform time, as under present conditions considerable inconvenience was caused to the . travelling public by trains leaving before business premises Wbre open.
