UNAUTHORISED CHAIN LETTER.

Vlimil IJTJI. li'viv. Sir, —For some time past a chain letter has been in circulation throughout the Dominion, requesting copies to be made of the same and stamps sent for the benefit of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, and indicating that if funds are not forthcoming the doors of the homes are likely to be closed. To ascertain the truth of this statement I wrote to Mr. William Baker, M.A., LL.B., the honorary director and chairman of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, Stepney Causeway, London, and received the following reply: — "We are very anxious to put a stop to the chain letter which is in circulation all over the world, and is doing harm to the national and beneficent work of theso homes, for the letter indicates that the work is being carried on by the executors, which is erroneous and misleading, for the homes are incorporated and are managed by a council, and far from the doors being closed they are as wide open as ever all over the kingdom. Will you please help to put the chain letter out of circulation by mentioning the matter to friends. Don't continue the chain; but if you are interested in this national and Imperial work for destitute children, your gift of three or more stamps, as asked for bv the chain letter, or larger amounts, will be heartily welcomed if sent direct to headquarters. C. A. SIMI'SOX. Manukau Road, Epsom. July 12, 1913.
